"I think if I was to sum up the relationship that we developed with Douglas Wallace in a few words they would be - questioning, challenging, demanding, uncompromising and tireless. All of these values could individually be perceived as negative but in fact they are exactly the opposite. They were what made the project so enjoyable."
Eleanor Kirby, Head of Visual Merchandising, Bang & Olufsen
We created the design for the 215 sqm Bang & Olufsen flagship store in Knightsbridge, London in collaboration with the Bang & Olufsen retail design department.
Our main design challenge was to work closely with Bang & Olufsen retaining some of their key existing brand values whilst also offering a new fresher approach to merchandising their product. Our brief required us to implement the existing Bang & Olufsen 'Blueprint' concept whilst also pushing this concept further than it had gone before.
The design of the Knightsbridge store was about creating a journey for the customer that would culminate in a total product experience in the home theatre environment located on the first floor of the store.
This environment was designed to reflect the key values of Bang & Olufsen's design creating a simple, unobtrusive backdrop with no unnecessary gimmicks allowing the product to tell its own story. Customers encounter all products available in the retail department, experiencing the product 'in use' and demonstrating the notion of interactivity for which Bang & Olufsen is internationally renowned.
