"I wanted a space that challenged my expectations of how leisure can be. Douglas Wallace gave me glamour, luxury and beauty"
Robbie Dolan, Managing Director, Crunch Fitness

The owners of this stylish gymnasium in Dun Laoghaire required the creation of a space that would challenge the consumer preconceptions of the gym environment, in keeping with Crunch Premier's dedication to fitness and health.

The design team provided a truly innovative health and fitness experience providing for both the serious athlete and those seeking to relax and de-stress. The complicated project involved converting a 12,000 sq ft basement space with no natural light into a modern gymnasium. Efficient use of lighting became an important necessity.

The design made use of light in such a way so as to create a sense of drama within the space. Fibre optic lighting was used under the glass floor and the stairs has under floor illumination.

From granite paving and exterior cladding, the gym user enters into a smooth white walled space washed with blue light. The descent from street level is via a glass underlit staircase. The reception area features a blue glass cube which actually forms the sales office. This giant cube is offset by the angled reception desk which is a 7.4m long tropical marine aquarium- the longest in Ireland. The gym itself contains an impressive range of state of the art equipment. Central to the space is a raised podium which is under lit giving an impression of floating.

This grande luxe style is now a benchmark in gym design.
