Our brief was to work with the Debenhams group implementing their newly developed design concept as well as project managing the various jobs. Our first project was on the 55,000 sq ft Debenhams retail outlet in Foyleside Shopping Centre in Derry. This was the first time that Debenhams used an Irish design firm to work on their various rollouts.

Douglas Wallace also worked as project managers for the fit out of the developers shell through to a completed unit. The project entailed management of the Debenhams external design team and co-ordination of the landlord/developer team. Douglas Wallace also fulfilled the role of contract administrator and managed the installation of all direct orders.

Features within the store include ladies and men's fashions, cosmetics hall, homewares and café food outlet offering magnificent views over the River Foyle.

The design team focused on delivering a space facilitating exceptional customer service delivered with style and animation. The new look has a black and white look moving away from the traditional corporate colour of blue. Less signage and extensive use of natural light are also prominent features within the overall design. The Foyleside store is a stand alone outlet which has been connected to the main shopping centre via a glazed bridge designed as part of the overall Debenhams fitout. The atrium is highlighted by a large feature wall which has been tastefully decorated with scenes of the Foyle painted by a local artist specially commissioned for the project.
