London Town Hotels commissioned Douglas Wallace in Spring 2007 to design their new boutique hotel in the heart of Paddington, London. The project consisted of restoring and adapting a terrace of 8 existing buildings built in the late 19th century. Acting as architects, interior designers, brand translators and project managers the first challenge was to transform the architectural envelope of the buildings –restoring them to their former glory whilst creating a stylish 21st century 4 star business hotel environment – fully connected with wifi throughout as well as fully air-conditioned. Hotel facilities created include reception, Phi café bar brasserie with street café seating, fitness studio plus external terrace at first floor level.
During the course of the project London Town Hotels signed an agreement with Intercontinental Hotel Group for Paddington to become the first Hotel Indigo outside of America.
The principles of Fibonacci underpin the approach to all elements of the hotel’s interior design. Added to this is an intriguing story that is told through the design –a story that reflects life, architecture and nature in the local community. Pure colours – for fabrics, carpets and rugs, wardrobe linings and murals - combine with natural materials throughout all areas of the hotel to give a quintessentially London feel to an international hotel brand.
Hotel Indigo Paddington opened in December 2008.
‘’ The Hotel Indigo Paddington is today a dramatic success story in that the customers love the look and feel of the design and the owner is enjoying revenue well beyond his already high expectations. IHG is very proud to hold out the hotel to other potential franchisee customers as the ‘prototypical design’ for what a Hotel Indigo should be.
The credit goes to Douglas Wallace for bringing the brand vision to life via the bricks and mortar of the building. ‘’
