Korky’s Dundrum, geared towards the teenage to 20’s market, can be described as ‘funky, fashionable, fast and accessible’.
The brief to the design team was to be creative and to keep as far removed from the ‘white box’ concept as possible. Douglas Wallace responded to this brief through the use of vibrant colours incorporated in fixtures and lighting detail. This fun, energetic and youthful space is also influenced by the use of strong graphics, in bold colours and cheeky silhouetted figures in sometimes slightly naughty poses.

While the client asked for anything but a white box, Douglas Wallace created a colourful space full of white boxes!! These boxes make up the cash desk and central display, designed to reflect the millions of shoeboxes which have passed through the client’s stores over the years.

The new design of Korkys has enabled the company to compete on a level playing field with many of its larger competitors. There is definitely a sense of the smaller more local companies stepping up their game. Korkys in Dundrum displays a confident use of colour that many designers and clients alike have been shying away from over recent years. The use of a red and orange palette has given the overall look of the store a sense of energy and vibrancy

John Corcoran, managing director of Korkys said, “We are very happy with the design of our new store. Douglas Wallace presented us with a prototype of how the store would look early on in the design process. The completed store has stayed faithful to this prototype and we are delighted that the design has worked”.
